From January 18-22, USAID supported the Kyrgyz Tourism Department’s participation in the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) Madrid exhibition. FITUR is a leading European tourism fair and a total 9,500 tourism companies from 165 countries participated in this year’s event.
On December 8, U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Alan Meltzer presented a copy of pedestrian street map signs that were installed in Karakol to the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government in Issyk-Kul oblast, Askhat Akibaev, and to Mayor of Karakol Daniyar Arpachiev. The U.S. Government, through USAID, installed 46 tourist signs across Issyk-Kul oblast, including four pedestrian maps in cities to make the world-class tourist attractions of the oblast more accessible to visitors.
On November 18-19, Jyrgalan Valley is hosting a festival to kick off the 2016-2017 ski season, featuring concerts, games and other activities showcasing winter sports, local handicrafts, and guest houses in the burgeoning Tian Shan backcountry ski destination located 60 kilometers east of Karakol. The festival is being organized with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Mubende District Youth Camp is an annual event that offers as many as 500 attendees from throughout the district the opportunity to come together and learn about the development programs available to them. The key areas of focus at the camp will be agriculture, leadership, and health. The camp is held in a different district sub-county every year. This year, it’s taking place in Kasambya Sub-County at Das Primary School.
