The United States Government works in close partnership with the Government of Côte d'Ivoire to support their goal of becoming an emerging country by 2020. The American people, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), invest in different technical areas to build Ivoirian capacity to achieve this goal. These programs further USAID’s global mission of partnering to end extreme poverty and promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing America’s security and prosperity.
How to Work With Us
HEALTH
USAID’s Health Office works closely with other U.S. Government agencies to help save the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS in Côte d'Ivoire through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). As the largest U.S. monetary investment in the country, USAID’s PEPFAR programs include prevention and treatment, supply chain strengthening, community-based supports for HIV services, including orphans and vulnerable children, and the analysis of strategic information. Additionally, USAID is undertaking a Family Planning Project to increase demand for and access to quality family planning services, a Water and Sanitation Project to promote sustainable and equitable access to clean water and sanitation services and engaging in the Global Health Security Agenda to ensure health preparedness and infectious disease control in Côte d'Ivoire.
PEACE AND SECURITY
USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives supported activities to create greater social cohesion and political stability leading up to the 2015 presidential elections. USAID reinforces its Democracy and Governance activities through the Côte d'Ivoire Transition Initiative Program, which has supported strengthening the capacity of the National Assembly, rehabilitating courts and judicial sector reform, assisting community radio stations, and promoting reconciliation at the grassroots level.
DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND GOVERNANCE
USAID’s Legislative Strengthening Project is creating linkages between deputies of the National Assembly and their respective constituents to help improve the critical oversight function of the National Assembly over national budget, government spending, and procurement processes. USAID is also implementing a long-term Justice Sector Support Project, which is improving the functioning of the justice system through the training of judicial personnel, improvement of case management, and a broad information campaign to help the public gain an improved understanding of the judiciary. USAID’s Electoral Reform Project provides technical support for election planning, voter registration, voter education and outreach. Regionally, USAID supports an Early Warning System for Electoral Violence to quickly track violence and civil unrest.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
USAID supports a regional approach to economic recovery in Côte d’Ivoire, with a focus on increasing agricultural productivity and decreasing trade barriers that will help the country return to its pre-crisis economic prosperity. Through President Obama’s Trade Africa Initiative, USAID helps farmers and firms to compete, attract investment to the region, and boost their regional and global trade. USAID is also providing assistance to the Government of Côte d'Ivoire to meet their obligations under the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement. In addition, USAID works in partnership with the European Union to promote Property Rights and Artisanal Diamond Development.
ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT
Power Africa brings together technical and legal experts, the private sector, and governments to work in partnership to increase the number of people with access to power and strengthen Côte d'Ivoire’s energy sector. To address regional environmental concerns, USAID works closely with the Government of Côte d'Ivoire on Biodiversity and Climate Change to improve conservation and climate-resilient, low emission growth, and on Tracking Land Use Dynamics and how it is affected by Climate Change.
