KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- In anticipation of an appeal from the Government of Afghanistan to meet the needs of an estimated 2.5 million Afghans that could be affected by food shortage this year, the U.S. Government (USG), through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced today that it is contributing $20 million dollars in food aid commodities to the World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan.

FAIZABAD, BADAKHSHAN- On July 17, 2006, the Alternative Livelihoods Program for Northeast Afghanistan (ALP/N), a USAID funded development project, donated its most recent harvest of cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, and green beans from its Faizabad trial farm to Fatima-Tul-Zahra Orphanage in the Faizabad Old City.

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- On May 13, 2006 Counterpart International, a prime-contractor of the United States for International Development (USAID), in partnership with other NGOs, conducted a seminar to raise awareness among members of the National Assembly of the role that NGOs play in the development of Afghanistan at Intercontinental hotel, Kabul.
