Obtaining national and provincial health spending data has been difficult, slowing down health policy development with accurate data. The Vietnamese Government would like to change this situation. With support from USAID’s Health Finance and Governance Project, Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has successfully completed analyses of national and provincial data for five pilot provinces, including Hanoi, Can Tho, Nghe An, Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa, for 2014 and 2015.

On August 23, USAID’s Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP) and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association  organized a workshop with leading textile manufacturers and sustainable industry experts to promote energy efficient technologies and practices that have the potential to reduce manufacturing energy consumption by 30%.

USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth Program is helping Hanoi Law University to adopt an innovative and practical approach in their training programs in order to equip judges, provincial legal officials, legal advisors, and lawyers with skills related to policy analysis, including conducting and interpreting policy impact assessments. Materials for the university’s 2018 master’s degree program have recently been developed, that apply the manual on policy analysis and policy impact assessment developed by USAID.

From August 26 to September 2, 2017, six faculty members from Hue and Thai Nguyen Universities of Medicine and Pharmacy are being trained at Harvard Medical School in the U.S. on curriculum development for second year medical students. Apart from integrating lectures, skills lab, and case-based study, the immersion program also focuses on developing an instructional strategy to engage students in the learning process and help them develop a strong knowledge foundation.
