USAID hands over 4 double-cab vehicles to various health districts.

On 02 August 2016, U.S. Ambassador Thomas Daughton and Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services Juliet Kavetuna welcomed more than 100 new health care workers hired through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) who will soon be deployed to health facilities in seven districts (Onandjokwe, Omuthiya, Tsumeb, Oshikuku, Andara, Nyangana, Engela) and three sites at Grootfontein.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Bernard Haufiku, together with the United States Ambassador to Namibia, Thomas Daughton, launched a new web-based computer system to manage medicine stocks countrywide, at Windhoek’s Central Hospital on 23 June 2016. This so-called “Pharmaceutical Information Dashboard” can monitor and track in real-time the availability of essential medicines, vaccines or any other clinical consumable at clinics and hospitals all over Namibia.

The Minister of Rural and Urban Development, Sophia Shaningwa, together with the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the United States Embassy, John Kowalski, handed over certificates to five newly trained Namibian rescue instructors and 132 other emergency response personnel, in Windhoek. The RESPOND training program, which was funded with US$700,000 by the United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) was implemented by Rescue South Africa and trained a total of 316 Namibians in emergency response management.

U.S. Ambassador Thomas Daughton brought an early Christmas gift to this year’s World AIDS Day commemorations at the coastal town of Lűderitz on December 1, 2015.  U.S. Ambassador Daughton announced that the United States will pledge US$46 million (approx. N$640 million) to fight HIV and AIDS in Namibia over the next year as part of its continued bilateral commitment in the health sector.  In addition to that, the United States is mobilizing US$34 million (approx. N$ 475 million) over the next two years to accelerate the delivery of HIV treatment services in areas with the highest prevalence and the greatest need.

The U.S. government, in partnership with Namibia’s Ministry of Finance and Namibia’s Customs & Excise, launched a powerful new tool to increase and facilitate cross-border trade. The “Namibia Trade Information Portal” is a web-based platform that provides an authoritative “one-stop shop” of readily accessible trade, customs and compliance information. It is designed to significantly reduce the time and effort required for local and international traders to access current information and documentation required for doing business.
