Amman (February 06, 2017) - As part of their effort to promote the newly established energy service providers' accreditation system (ETIMAD), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Coalition of Energy Services Associations (CESA) celebrated the first group of accredited energy service companies today. Energy service providers (ESPs), large energy consumers, electricity utility companies, financial institutions and government officials attended the awards ceremony.
In his remarks, USAID Deputy Mission Director Dr. Lewis Tatem said, "Today's awards, which recognize leading energy service providers in Jordan, are just the beginning of a process to expand energy services business opportunities. We at USAID are proud to assist developing the accreditation program and support the energy sector."
ETIMAD is a voluntary, transparent and rigorous accreditation program built by CESA with the support of USAID to improve trust between consumers and ESPs. Accredited ESPs will improve the performance of their businesses, increase their competitiveness, and expand their market opportunities. As consumers become aware of the value of accreditation, they will seek out accredited ESPs to implement their energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
"CESA's activities, which aim to impact the energy sector in the region, are driven by the need to build a thriving market for energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions," said Eng. Abdullah Bdeir, CESA Chairman. "It is designed to help consumers reduce the burden of their energy expenditures, increase the profitability of ESPs, and support the government to enhance energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy resources," he added.
CESA is a USAID-supported non-profit organization founded by three Jordanian associations which play a critical role in the energy sector. They include the Jordan Green Building Council (JGBC), EDAMA for energy, water and environmental solutions, and the Renewable Energy Establishment Society (REES). The United States government, through USAID, has provided foreign assistance from the American people to Jordan for more than 60 years.
