In 2015, Afghanistan launched its first-ever nationwide effort to gather comprehensive demographic and health information of its citizens. The Demographic and Health Survey results provide new baseline data on key population and health indicators, such as fertility levels, marriage rates, awareness and use of family planning methods, breastfeeding practices, nutritional status of mothers and young children, childhood and maternal health and mortality, and information on social indicators, such as domestic violence.
USAID’s Promote: Women in Government project conducted a civil service Jobs Fair to identify career opportunities for women in the government sector. The event brought together approximately 500 women who have all undergone a 12-month internship program focusing on multi-level intensive training for employment in the civil service to meet with more than 50 officials from 25 government ministries and independent agencies.
Officials from the US Embassy, USAID/ADALAT and the Ministry of Justice signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the US Embassy in Kabul. The MoU will serve as a guiding document between USAID/ADALAT and the MOJ that outlines responsibilities and commitments of both parties.
To develop Afghanistan’s higher education sector, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) established the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) in 2006 in in Kabul. To encourage more female students to enroll, USAID is constructing a new dormitory through its Promote Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment program.
In October of 2012, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Afghanistan launched an economic growth program to work with the private sector to strengthen productivity and help enterprises sustain growth and create jobs.
